Raleigh
is North Carolina’s state capital.
Designated an All American City, it is a city attracting
national attention.
One thing that visitors notice right away is the abundance
of open green space in this city of about 300,000 people.
Raleigh’s “Greenway” is a network of public
open spaces and recreational trails for walking, jogging,
hiking, bird watching, fishing and just plain outdoor fun.
You are never far from enjoying one of Raleigh’s dozens
of public parks, many of them situated on beautiful lakes.
Performing arts contribute greatly to the Raleigh experience.
Memorial Auditorium, a 2,277-seat theater featuring music,
dance, comedy, and Broadway touring productions, is a downtown
gem. Opportunities to enjoy dance, the visual arts, live
concerts, comedy, crafts and festivals abound. The capital
hosts the North Carolina Museum of Art and is the home base
for the North Carolina Symphony, both of which continue
to delight even the most discerning arts-goers.
College basketball, to put it mildly, is BIG in the Triangle.
If you are a college hoop fan, there’s not more exciting
conference than the ACC. Raleigh is home to the North Carolina
State University Wolfpack. And, within an easy drive are
legendary rivals The University of North Carolina, Duke
and Wake Forest.
Professional hockey has come to Raleigh – loyal fans
continue to flock to see the Carolina Hurricanes.
Higher education is an important resource in Raleigh. North
Carolina State is an outstanding college known for research
in the applied sciences. Six other colleges and universities
are located within the city's borders.
Raleigh is also an historic city with architecturally distinctive
government and commercial buildings, and graceful residential
areas dating from the early 1800s. Several decades of revitalization
and restoration efforts have created vibrant commercial
districts downtown that boast wonderful restaurants and
art galleries. Innovative conversions of historic buildings
into new uses have drawn resident and visitors into the
heart of the city.
Often called a city within a garden, Raleigh offers something
for everyone in a livable, friendly environment.

Artsplosure
Artsplosure in downtown Raleigh is a 17 day
continuous multidimensional celebration representing
the visual and performing arts. The festival
attracts local and nationally known artists,
craftsmen and performers. Dance, music, art
work and crafts cover the city in a moving
tabloid.
Center Stage
Center Stage at Stewart Theater in Raleigh
is a major presenter of the nation’s
finest professional off Broadway theater.
Thirty-five theater, music and dance companies
perform annually featuring renowned entertainers.
The North Carolina
Museum of Art
Located in Raleigh, the North Carolina Museum
of Art is considered to be one of the top
17 museums in America. Its collections are
highly respected and generally recognized
as the best in the southeast. The museum is
best known for its European collection but
others include 20th Century American, Ancient
Egyptian, Classical, African and Pre-Colombian.
Programs and tours are offered regularly.
The North Carolina
Symphony
The Symphony is a major national symphony
which is highly respected. It is in the leading
ranks of the nation’s regional orchestras
and has played to rave reviews at Carnegie
Hall and The Kennedy Center. Symphony concerts
frequently feature acclaimed international
celebrities. Performances include a classical
service of eight concerts, a Series of Pop
Concerts with guest stars like Doc Severinsen,
a Summerfest Series featuring a mixture of
jazz, popular and classical music, and a Young
People’s Service. The symphony is a
state supported orchestra and plays concert
seasons in 100 North Carolina cities including
Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. It also performs
in schools across the state.
Theater in
the Park
This community theater is known for outstanding
classic, original and avant-garde works. It
draws 40,000 to its 4 - 5 annual productions
making it the largest community theater in
North Carolina. The Theater’s annual
version of"A Christmas Carol" has
become a Triangle tradition.
